Product Description – We found this extraordinary clock and fell in love instantly. Its a stunner.
Circa 1890s, this clock is an Egyptian Revival white onyx Napoleon III Mantle clock with French Imperial Eagle surmount and rooster finials over molded crest above the onyx columnar supports flanking the enamel decorated dial with Roman marker chapter ring centered by a cut and gilded bronze brass relief of opposing winged lions and encircled by a cast gilt bezel, French clock movement signed Japy Freres, over a relief chariot scene and rising on a metal-mounted plinth base supported on lion’s paw feet. That’s a mouthful but we wanted to pass along the information provided via the estate collector.
This clock stands a commanding 19.5 tall x 10″ depth x 12 inches wide – and is quite heavy. We’ve never seen this model in 40 years of collecting.
Provenance – Purchased from a prominent Baltimore, Maryland collector whose father had a jeweler and clock shop in downtown Baltimore City in the 1920s-1950s. This was one of his favorites…
