Product Description – This was one of those estate finds that we came across that the owner just didn’t want to seem to part with – but, when his wife said the word retirement repeatedly and “no room”  the lamp in the attic was another item headed home with us.  We didn’t push, but fell in love with the rustic relic as soon as we saw it.

This lamp is a really great early example of a Mission Oak Lamp, likely Circa 1910-1920 and was made during the transition from the age of Victorian fancy to a period noted as the Arts and Crafts movement, which lasted from about 1880 through 1920. Gustav Stickley, Elbert Hubbard, and Charles Limbert are a few of the well-known names when it comes to Mission-style furniture. The businesses run by these men also made a variety of decorative accessories including lamps.

This example stands 23 inches in height x 16 inches in width as its widest point.  The base is made of oak and retains is original patina.  There are eight original slag glass panels with one panel showing a crack with missing glass.  The other seven appear to be in good condition.  The base appears to have had repairs to the supports for the shade at some point in its life.  It still has the original wiring which by the way, still works!  The patina on the shade and the base really stand out as an authentic period lamp.  In this case – the pictures really do tell the story!

Provenance – Purchased from an estate in York, PA.  The owners indicated that it has been handed down through the a grandmother who had it displayed in the corner of her foyer when she was a kid.  After inheriting and treasuring the lamp in their own home, somehow it made its way to attic.  Great attic find and absolutely fresh to the market.
